FORMADO AZULAO
I was born in 1975 and began my martial arts training in August of 1980. I have spent more then 2 ½ decades studying the martial arts and over the years have received several honors. In 1997, I received a 5th Degree Black Belt in Jujutsu from the World Martial Arts Federation and in the same year I was honored with an Official Menkyo Kaiden from my teacher Shigazato Nagano Sensei in Japan. Afterwards, I began to teach Jujutsu seminars, rape prevention workshops, and defensive tactics courses for law enforcement. In 2001, I was inducted into the Black Belt Hall of Fame as Master Instructor of the Year. I began my serious Capoeira journey 14 years ago. While in college at North Carolina A&T State University, I met Dr. William Martin who was at the time a student of Mestre Nego Gato. We founded the first and only student martial arts organization on campus for Capoeira and Jujutsu. I was so amazed at his skill that I just had to learn it. So I asked if I could join his group “Nego Gato Capoeira Angola Foundation”. As a young Angoleiro, I had the opportunity to meet and study with Mestre Nego Gato. In 1998, Mestre Nego Gato came to visit our school campus to perform. It was at this time that I met Contra-Mestre Jo. She was nothing short of Amazing. In 2002, I was officially given permission to teach Capoeira. After many years of training and having relocated, Contra-Mestre Jo accepted me officially as her student . In 2009 in Hong Kong, china; I finally took the Formatura, and to my surprise I received the rank of Formado Equipe Jô Capoeira. I am still very young in Capoeira but I absolutely love the journey. I have also founded my own Jujutsu organization in which I am passing on the traditional art of Jujutsu.
